ADM Orders Italian ISPs to Block 51 New Unauthorized Gambling Sites

In a recent move to maintain control over Italy’s regulated gambling market, the Agenzia delle Dogane e dei Monopoli (ADM), Italy’s Customs and Monopolies Agency, has issued a new directive to internet service providers (ISPs) instructing them to block access to 51 additional unauthorized gambling websites.

The ADM, which is responsible for overseeing gambling activities in Italy, continues to tighten its grip on illegal gambling operations in the country. This latest directive is part of an ongoing effort by the agency to enforce compliance with Decree-Law No. 14 of 2020, later converted into Law 104. Under this law, the ADM has the authority to instruct ISPs to take action against websites offering gambling services without proper authorization.

The letter from the ADM orders ISPs to block access to these 51 new websites by redirecting users to a specific IP address (217.175.53.72). This process must be completed by September 25, 2024, giving providers just over two weeks to comply.

The specific redirection is intended to inform users that the site they are attempting to access is not authorized to operate in Italy. This measure aims to prevent users from engaging with unregulated and potentially unsafe gambling platforms.

This is not the first time the ADM has taken action of this kind. In fact, the agency regularly updates its list of unauthorized sites, which can be found on its official website.

The ADM’s strict regulations are intended to protect Italy’s online gambling market, ensuring that all gambling services offered to residents comply with Italian law. Unauthorized operators often fail to provide the same level of security and transparency as licensed operators, posing a risk to consumers. By blocking these unlicensed sites, the ADM aims to safeguard players from potential fraud and maintain the integrity of the regulated market.

This latest move highlights the ongoing battle between regulatory authorities and unlicensed gambling operations, with the ADM taking active steps to maintain the legal framework around Italy’s online gambling scene.
